BURTON CLOSED FOR BUSINESS, OPEN FOR ACTION
Burton is proud to announce that the company is joining millions of students and workers around the world in support of the Global Climate Strike during the Week for Future, September 20-27. All Burton offices and owned stores will be closed for business the day of the local strike so employees worldwide can walk out and join nearby marches. In addition, Burton.com will be closed for online orders globally on September 20, with the website re-directing to the Global Climate Strike homepage to build awareness for the cause.
“I’ve been so inspired by Greta Thunberg and the students around the world who have used the weekly Fridays for Future protests to beg adults to pay attention to the climate crisis,” said Donna Carpenter, Co-CEO of Burton. “At Burton, we want to help preserve the winter outdoor experience for future generations, so I’m proud to have our company join Greta’s movement. As Greta said, ‘We’re all in the same boat, so everyone should be concerned about this.’”
To support the Global Climate Strike, Burton is taking the following actions:
Burton offices in the U.S., Canada, Europe, China, Japan, South Korea and Australia will be closed, and employees will receive paid time off to join strikes in their regions either on September 20 or 27.
All global flagship stores owned by Burton will be open to the public as a community gathering space before and after nearby marches. Cash registers will be closed but supplies will be on hand for making signs for the strike and taking other climate actions.
Supporting the Global Climate Strike is just one more step forward on Burton’s sustainability journey. In addition to comprehensive sustainability efforts currently in place, the company is working towards progressive new standards that span everything from manufacturing and packaging to office energy usage and fair labor practices.
