Sequence Movie Zero

The 2019 season brought many news for Sequence Magazine. Among these, a specific one is very important to all of us: the first Sequence Movie ever. The last video showing the Italian snowboard scene dates back to 2015 and after that, many projects have followed giving just a partial glimpse of certain aspects of the national scene, but nothing more.

From a media point of view, a movie that gave voice to new Italian talents and resorts was missing for too long in Italy. This project wants to promote them, putting them in direct connection with Europe – and its stronger riders – through our media and its exclusive format, attentive to aesthetics but also to the technical side. A Made in Italy product with a European vocation!” tells Denis Piccolo, Sequence Magazine Editor in Chief.

Last winter has been great and a leverage of new riders with their desire to do and get involved in front of the camera provided a great impulse, so it seemed logical to us to get in the game in order to make an Italian snowboard movie happen again. To tell the truth, the genesis of the project was quite natural: the idea came simultaneously from the riders protagonists and from the Sequence team, we’ve just realized the intentions and organized the shootings to make the movie happen.

“A movie that gave voice to new Italian talents and resorts was missing for too long in Italy. This project wants to promote them, putting them in direct connection with Europe.”

We had 3 crews of riders and they worked independently on different terrains and spots with their filmers. The names of our protagonists are: Emiliano Lauzi, Emil Zulian, Loris Framarin, Alberto Maffei, Nicola Dioli, Gianmarco Maiocco, Jack Errichiello e Nicola Ganz. The movie has been filmed in Arlberg, Prato Nevoso, Livigno, Seiser Alm, Stelvio, Innsbruck and Val di Fassa.

Shooting with Sequence was a great experience!” states the rider Emil Zulian. “With my background made mainly of park and contest, filming in the backcountry was a challenge that made me realize how much effort, dedication and work is behind every single shot! I can not wait to start filming the next episode!”

Even the rider Emiliano Lauzi was enthusiastic: “For me it is an honor to be a protagonist in an all-Italian movie, which has been missing for too long!”

The name of the movie, in its essence, is extremely symbolic.Sequence Movie means that it is a video made by Sequence, not a project that we participated in or that we sponsored: we are responsible of all its faults and merits, as well as having full control of it. Zero because it has no previous records, so it is the progenitor of a totally new thing. Zero is also a number with multiple meanings because it means nothing, which, however, must be distinguished from “lack of value”, because it has in fact a completely different meaning.

To use a comparison we like, if for example the temperature is zero, the water freezes, a situation far from worthless. Then, if the zero is placed in front of a number it does not change its value, with a decimal point the number gets divided by ten, while if the zero is put after the number that increases tenfold. And here we can recall the subtitle, half full. Everything depends on the perspective with which you look at things and face situations: zero can be nothing, but it also can be everything, just as the glass can be half full or half empty.

The name of the movie itself embodies our resilience and desire to continue,” tells Francesco Zoppei – Sequence Movie editor, “the Episode Zero (Half Full) wants to be a strong sign of positivity regarding the Italian and international snowboard scene.”

This meaning can be applied to riders, who have often found themselves facing moments that only their willpower has transformed into occasions and victories, both for Sequence as a media, which believes in the project by putting two zeroes behind the one percentage and is sure that the half-full glass will not only be filled to the brim, but it will also gloriously overflow!

The name of the movie itself embodies our resilience and desire to continue and wants to be a strong sign of positivity regarding the Italian and international snowboard scene.”
